From a 520 Credit Score and No Savings To Homeowner in 6 Months

Let me be real with you. I wasn’t always in a position to buy a home. My credit score hovered around 520–535, weighed down by credit card debt, student loans, and even IRS debt. I had no savings, and at one point, I was living in a hotel and sleeping on friends' couches, desperately trying to figure out my next steps.
Even when I finally got a place, I knew I wasn’t living the life I truly wanted. Making just $17.50 an hour, I realized that wasn’t enough to get me where I wanted to be. So, I made a decision: I cut off distractions, got off social media, and stopped wasting time. I focused on rebuilding my life.
When I visited a lender in June 2022, he told me to come back in six months. Instead of feeling discouraged, I took it as a plan. He laid out the steps for me: pay everything on time, reduce my credit card debt, avoid opening new accounts, and improve my credit.
I listened, and for the next six months, I committed to making it happen. When I went back to the lender after six months, my score had increased to 640 and I was able to start the pre-qualifications process.
